hi there, maybe this is not the correct thread, but im a little bit confused, buyed the commodore epic player today and the instruction said that i have to go to commodoreworld.com to check for firmwareupdates, i just cant find them so i hope that you can tell me where to go for it.
yours truly
No it isn’t hot, because yeahronimo/tulip leaves customers alone with their rotten eVic mp3-player signed with this logo. No information on your website, no firmware, absolutly nothing. The evic has ruined the logo an the faith of the brandmark.
Thanks for your quick response. I have bought Commodore eVic the late 2005 agog with expectation to play ogg/vorbis-files because I’m using GNU/Linux and ogg is my choice for music encoding. Unfortunately the sound is scratching if you turn on the EQ. I have contacted ‘hardwaresupport@commodorecorp.com’ but every time the email returned with ‘delivery failure’. I was so angry that I posted the first entry here. Perhaps you can tell your employer that there are people waiting for some information on the website about further support for the player. What will I do if the accumulator is broken? No way to change it. I hope you understand my harsh words in the first posting. Best regards
Hi Steve,
please try support@commodoreworld.com maybe they can help you further with this device. I’m from the Gravel generation so can not help you there but only suggest you. Now you hit the ogg/vorbis word anyway, do you and ofcourse others think that this is a must have codec for us?
thanks,
I have read the gravel pruduct sheet (gravel pocket) an I have seen your videos about that device. My first impression is that it is a really nice and well designed gadget with a lot of features, but:
Since I’m using opensource software products, I am very close to the ideas of opensource community and for me formats like ogg/vorbis, flac or speex are the best choice. I would never accept DRM mechanism, because a lot of problems are combined with this technology. The quality of ogg is great and at minimum coequal to mp3/wma. With a fresh linux installation, i.e Ubuntu which I use, you are not able to play mp3- or wma- files without to get in trouble with law. Happily the company Fluendo has paid a license of Fraunhofer and Thomson to be able to distribute a binary mp3 decoder freely available for gstreamer users. Mostly Frauenhofer/Thomson are very kind to opensource software developer (mp3decoder) and they don’t claim for money.
The Gravel’ WiFi is absolutely great but your company persue a oneway if customers only able to connect commodore’s distribution chain. People don’t want to be restricted at that point. They want (not especially me) also use things which has accepted by majority, i.e youtube or itunes music store to view videos or buy music. I would use WiFi to hear netradio all over the world or stream from player to my Hifi Stereo. Best regards — Steve
There ist one thing left. If people feel restricted with their hardware and have enough knowhow to hack players microcontroller , they do it as you can see on http://www.rockbox.org
thanks for your feedback and i will use it in my brainsessions for future features. Because of the DRM contracts witht the labels we need to use the WMA format, our platform will be open enough for developers to add extra codecs and we will deliver some of them ourselves so you will be able to view/upload other formats ….
Wow this looks great!
